Why on earth would Leicester City reject a transfer offer for Jannik Vestergaard? The bid must have been particularly insulting as the defender was a notoriously bad signing.

Leicester are obviously known globally primarily for inexplicably winning the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season. Yet their success, while startling and unprecedented, was partially explainable. You see, expert scouring and scouting led to a Moneyball-esque compatibility explosion in the squad. Everything gelled and stars aligned under the reformed ‘Tinkerman’ Claudio Ranieri.

That is why everybody notices when the Foxes make dud purchases. Not to mention the ripple effects being much more hurtful to the King Power club’s progress, as opposed to larger teams’ own errors. Signing Vestergaard for approximately £15million around this time last year seemed like a mistake in the making – and consequently proved just so.

Ill-advised captures on Filbert Way were spoiled with unjustifiably high wages. In other words, poor backup players were overpriced and are paid too much. Subsequently LCFC are struggling to offload them during the suspended roster refresh.

So why on earth would the Leicester reject a reasonable offer for Vestergaard? You tell me, becasue Foxes of Leicester has no clue. Taking a slight loss is even preferable to being stuck with unwanted personnel with no funding for preferable players.

According to a report from Denmark – the centreback’s nation – Brentford have seen an approach declined. This supposed rejection could only have occurred for a few concerning reasons. Firstly, Vestergaard is possibly a part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans – which would be worrying. Secondly the bid is particularly insulting. Thirdly, it is claimed that the defender is content at LCFC. With all due respect  – really?

Leicester City play two friendlies in one day

While partial LCFC attention is on the transfer market, double friendly matches are the next item on the Foxes’ itinerary. On Saturday the squad splits into two to play Championship side Preston North End, as well as Midlands rivals Derby.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers will probably handle the Preston fixture, with assistant manager Chris Davies likely to shepherd a lesser side versus the Rams. The Lilywhites game kicks off at 3pm, after the initial 1pm outing ends.
