Leicester’s Wesley Fofana plan revealed and it’s ingenious
By Ethan Henson
For all that Fofana’s behaviour has enraged Foxes fans, with plenty voicing their displeasure at his attitude over social media, it doesn’t automatically translate that having an unhappy or unsettled player should mean that a club should sanction a transfer for a cut price. Or even at all, in the spirit of maintaining squad morale, or on the principle that no player is bigger than the club. Once the window is over, the player’s attitude will have to change, not only for the sake of his current club, but for the sake of his World Cup plans and ambitions to move to Chelsea the following year.
If the defender is as smart off the pitch as he is on it, he will be wise enough to understand that it’s in his best interests to be professional. Putting in spectacular performances on the pitch is the way to go, ensuring a place in the France national squad for Qatar, and to guarantee interest will still be around this time next year.
Besides, the Foxes finance brains will surely have anticipated that selling one of their key players for big money, whether that be Fofana, James Maddison or Harvey Barnes, would mean that when it comes to incomings, a Leicester tax would be applied to all of their targets. Selling clubs knowing the East Midlanders have money to spend, and are desperate to make some signings.
