Brendan Rodgers has indicated that Wesley Fofana had behavioural and focus issues and also missed a Foxes training session amid transfer interest from Chelsea.

Leicester’s central defensive prodigy Wesley Fofana has lost support from many previously loyal sections of the Foxes faithful. At this rate, the Frenchman is on the verge of upsetting the calmer, more thoughtful and gentler Blue Army members, too.

In a few weeks, Fofana went from one of the absolute fan favourites to being vilified and one of the most scrutinised players around. I am not going to say much to defend him, I believe the former Saint-Etienne man is seeking a transfer to the Blues, has asked LCFC to consider lower offers and is now conceivably worsening an already unsettled squad. Though that statement is conjecture, my view is influenced by feasible reports from credible sources.

Brendan Rodgers has also made a few potentially telling comments of late. Beginning with a quote regarding Wesley Fofana’s and Youri Tielemans’ exclusions, stating “You can’t carry them [Fofana and Tielemans], or certainly we can’t“. When referring to troubled Foxes, Rodgers typically backs them 100 per cent – in what is presented in this article, he does not. I suspect there are reasons for the gaffer’s stance; some would describe the scenario created by the athlete as ‘letting the side down’!

Additionally, the boss has now divulged further possibly unsettling details on the centreback. Along with saying the latter’s focus has faded somewhat, the manager also hinted at other problems regarding Fofana:

"“It certainly wasn’t right for him to play (on Saturday) after everything over the course of the week… He has been in the club. He has missed a training session, but he’s been back in…”“But you have to set a standard of behaviour and if it’s not quite right and your focus isn’t right, that only hurts your team-mates. I will always make that decision. If something’s not right – no matter who the player is – he has to come out for the greater good of the team and the club.”Leicestershire Live"

Leicester City’s next match won’t seal Brendan Rodgers’ fate

There is little time to get back to the drawing board for Rodgers, with the Foxes travelling north to play Stockport County in the League Cup on Tuesday. I don’t think there is any doubt over two elements here: firstly, the Northern Irishman will rotate and predominantly use backup personnel; secondly, the manager won’t be relieved of duty if Leicester lose.

The first assumption is an obvious one, as the east Midlanders always use periphery players in these early contests against lesser sides. And the second prediction is an extention of the initial point.

However, if LCFC subsequently lose to Chelsea and Manchester United in the Premier League, Rodgers’ position will start to become untenable with no wins in five top-flight outings. Should Leicester then be defeated at Brighton & Hove Albion, surely the ex-Liverpool boss’s time will be up on Filbert Way.
