Caglar Soyuncu signed with Leicester City in the summer of 2018. He did not make many appearances in his first season with the team. 2019 is when Soyuncu started to play his best. Alongside Johnny Evans, Soyuncu played well enough to earn himself a spot in the Premier League team of the season. He also played well the following season. However, a fall-off in form last season has left Soyuncu not to be picked for a game this season.

Brendan Rodgers has given playing time to Daniel Amartey during this Soyuncu absence. It has not gone well for the Foxes since this change. Amartey has already been at fault for a couple of Leicester’s goals this season and the team currently sits in last in the Premier League. With the team and specifically Amartey struggling, fans have begun to wonder why Amartey is consistently starting over Soyuncu.

When asked about the ordeal, Rodgers talked about how he’s been selecting players who are ‘committed to the club’. Soyuncu is currently in the last year of his contract and has been a transfer candidate throughout the summer.

Inter Milan has had the most interest in signing Soyuncu this summer, even though their interest has decreased. With a potential move in the horizon, Rodgers wanted to select a player who’s signed to the team.

Rodgers also commented on how he wants to play players who are giving 100% in training. Potentially throwing some shade at Soyuncu’s work ethic at training, Rodgers said the following:

"“I see them every day in training, so it’s consistency and desire and mentality, all these things,” Rodgers said. “Cags was one who was linked with going away as well, he’s only got a year left on his contract. We’ve tried to pick the players we’ve seen in training who are committed to the work, and how they have been working.”"

It is unknown if Soyuncu will overtake Amartey if he’s still on the team by the end of the transfer window. A potential new signing could be the one to overtake Amartey. But, with Rodgers expressing his disapproval of Amartey’s defending of Sterling, it is clear an opening is ready for whoever may be ready to take it.
