With the transfer of Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe now off the cards, Leicester City are now looking at bringing in former West Brom star Matheus Pereira before the transfer window slams shut. Everton have apparently joined the chase.

Although unable to stop the West Midlands side from being relegated, Pereira provided an impressive 11 goals and 6 assists in the Baggies’ otherwise disappointing 2020/21 Premier League campaign. Despite a number of Premier League clubs being after the Brazilian’s signature in wake of the club’s relegation to The Championship- with Leicester being one of them- the 26 year-old opted to join Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal instead. Now The Sun reports that LCFC are back in for him.

After a one-year stint in the Middle East, the player has now issued his interest in returning to the top level of English football. And with the last minute inpouring of funds from the controversial Wesley Fofana deal, the Foxes presumably now have the capacity to bring Pereira to the King Power.

As a dynamic option that can play on either wing (as well as the No.10 role), the left-footer would be a welcomed addition to the squad that will be of extra use when injuries come into play. That being said, if he were to join, he would quite-likely slot into a fully-fit Leicester side via the RW position- a position that has haunted Foxes fans ever since Riyad Mahrez left for the blue side of Manchester.

In turn, the recruitment of Pereira would leave Leicester with an attacking line-up of Harvey Barnes down the left, Pereira down the right, and Maddison occupying the ‘number 10’ position behind either Jamie Vardy, Kelechi Iheanacho, or Patson Daka. With Barnes’ unapologetic directness, Maddison and Pereira’s interchangeable flair, and the variety of options provided by the three strikers at our disposal, Foxes fans should be confident that such line-up has the capability to bring us out of the rut that we are currently in.

In addition, in inking a deal with the East Midlands outfit, Pereira would be the first Brazilian to wear the blue of Leicester City. An itch which many ‘in the know’ Leicester fans have wanted scratch for a number of years.
