There is a particular set of Premier League relegation statistics that look particularly worrying for Leicester City Football Club.

With no European football to participate in this season, there may be a wait to see the Foxes in action again. The EPL have neither confirmed nor denied that fixtures will go ahead next weekend (Saturday, September 17). This is because Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is set to take place on the following Monday, Sept. 19, at Westminster Abbey.

This hiatus for Leicester might be a blessing in disguise in footballing terms, with all due respect to the Royal Family. Brendan Rodgers must find a more suitable method, motivate his dejected and unmotivated squad and examine his own failings during the break. Otherwise, the Northern Irishman will find himself out of work.

Being bottom of the English top-flight table is absolutely unacceptable for LCFC, and Rodgers is more than partially to blame for the horrific decline in overall quality, general performances and extremely disappointing results over the previous six months or so. One point from six games is ludicrous for a roster of this calibre.

At the previous press conference undertaken prior to the cancellation of the Aston Villa clash, Rodgers’ energy was low. Very low indeed. He seemed like someone approaching the gallows rather than a Midlands rival in the world’s premium division. And, in a way, that metaphor is accurate. We are more than likely approaching the end for the 49-year-old on Filbert Way – unless he finds a miraculous cure to his side’s awful problems.

The set-piece coach might perhaps help the players to stop conceding silly goals and rearrange Rodgers’ terrible hybrid zonal defending preference. And, at the other end, at least corner takers could now miss the first defender! If this amendment aids contest outcomes drastically, maybe the new transfer recruitment chief will successfully bolster Leicester further in January with new signings. Though all this feels like wishful thinking.

Leicester Mercury reporter Jordan Blackwell tweeted a startlingly unpropitious statistic recently. You can see above that Blackwell claims only 11 EPL outfits ever had a mere single point subsequent to six outings, similarly to LCFC’s contemporary status. Eight of these clubs were eventually relegated to the Championship.

Injuries and the pandemic can no longer possibly be at fault for shortcomings. We are likely in the last weeks of the currently inauspicious managerial regime.
