For the first time in weeks, Leicester City did not lose at the weekend. Unfortunately, this was due to postponement rather than performance, brought about due to the sad passing of her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. For football fans, it led to cancelling an entire round of fixtures as the Premier League unanimously decided to postpone out of respect.

This was met with criticism due to rampant fixture congestion and the fact that other sports continued to play. Disappointingly, it was also revealed that the fear of disrespectful behaviour of certain supporters also played a part in leading to the cancellation. On the flip side, for some Leicester fans, this was probably a reprieve given how difficult it has been watching LCFC so far this season.

When it comes to this weekend’s fixtures, some seem more likely to continue than others. Leicester City’s fixture has been green lighted – at the time of writing. Therefore, FoL aims to bring some clarity to a confusing situation.

Leicester City’s fixture to go ahead

The Queen’s sad passing has led to an upsurge of visitor numbers to London as people pay their respects. This, combined with the constant demand for television coverage, has led to a shortage of TV trucks as well as police officers who have had to focus their resources on London.

The Foxes’ away fixture is scheduled for Saturday at 5:30pm, due to be televised on Sky Sports. On the one hand, it has been widely reported that the EFL will restart on Tuesday which gives hope that mostly all top division matches can be fulfilled. Even so, this has been juxtaposed with the postponement of Arsenal’s Europa League tie vs PSV Eindhoven. Other fixtures such as Manchester United vs Leeds United and Chelsea vs Liverpool have also been postponed.

As such, based on this information, it seems that high-profile rivalries that require greater police presence are the ones under the most threat. Journalist Mike Keegan shed some light on an uncertain situation saying there is “growing confidence” that the Foxes’ game will go ahead before confirmation. Logically, the game would require less policing with no being a history of major fan violence between the sides, unlike Man United versus Leeds for example. This provides hope for supporters who have financially committed to attending, even if LCFC fans don’t expect a positive result.

Personally, I think this game will likely go ahead, there seems little reason to U-turn. Although whether the clash is televised or not remains doubtful. It feels inconceivable that another contest can be postponed when there are no free game weeks until the new year.

Furthermore, many City fans see this fixture as the final nail in the coffin for Brendan Rodgers as the upcoming international break would provide a logical time to have a change of leadership. Ultimately, a final decision will be relayed to both clubs shortly.
