When their 6-2 drubbing by Tottenham Hotspur was complete, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers spoke on his now potential sacking from the Foxes owners.

When Youri Tielemans opened the scoring versus Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a few Leicester fans may have had slight hope of a miraculous three points. I mean, they’ve seen LCFC miracles before: the Premier League’s ‘Great Escape’ in 2014/15 and the unimaginable EPL triumph of 2015/16.

Yet fate was always on the London club’s side in this one. Most of us who support and cherish the King Power outfit knew the real score. As Harry Kane put away the equaliser, hope once again began to evaporate. After the Lilywhites took the lead for the first time, James Maddison’s subsequent leveller merely teased the Blue Army some more. Four further goals for Antonio Conte’s men followed.

In the second half, the east Midlands team’s papered over defensive frailties were eventually exposed. And I am not being harsh, at all. Though efforts never evaporated, there is a distinct lack of cohesiveness. The miserably poor set-piece defending, weakened by an incorrect hybrid zone method, highlighted afresh.

Rodgers’ stubbornness, unwillingness and incapacity to alter or resolve the problem of successfully clearing corners is baffling, frustrating and indefensible. Shipping another in that fashion firmly marks Leicester bottom of the English top-flight for conceding in this category since the beginning of last season.

Leicester City have a break to decide or be decisive

Following the final whistle and Son Heung-min thoroughly embarrassing the Leicestershire side, the Northern Irishman was interviewed by media. One point from seven EPL matches whilst conceding 22 goals places the latter’s job on Filbert Way in direct jeopardy – facing the press must be very awkward.

Rodgers certainly understands the pressure and is not hiding from it, yet Foxes of Leicester consider his position untenable at this stage. Relegation must be avoided and this gaffer unavoidably contributed to the spiral. He admitted that he will always respect the LCFC hierarchy if they have to make the ultimate decision regarding his tenure:

As I said, whatever happens to me here at Leicester, whether I stay and continue to fight on, I’ll always respect them.”Leicester Mercury"
