Tielemans apparently joining EPL club free as other team withdraw
A report carried by Express Sport claims Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans will join a Premier League club for free at the end of season. Meanwhile another major side have withdrawn from the chase for the Belgium international. Foxes of Leicester offer their opinion.
Before a laborious off-season digesting and rating transfer rumours concerning Tielemans, I absolutely advocated the Foxes seeking to sell the FA Cup-winning goalscorer for a cut price fee. At the time, even that compromised suggestion felt rather a shame as the player should really have retained his £40million value to LCFC in respect to quality.
Though contract length evidently dictates much in football transactions; in January the 26-year-old can negotiate to leave at the end of the season as his deal expires that summer. Which is precisely why I wanted Leicester to obtain something for him, regardless of likely only being a relatively a small amount. That point of view was especially relevant when considering the lack of funds on Filbert Way.
Yet previously interested clubs no longer held that interest, or knew that the former Monaco man would be available for free next year when no bids transpired. Before the 2022/23 campaign kicked off – and more often prior to the August window closing – a few wise and guileful Foxes fans told me they would prefer to keep Tielemans in order to aid the probable upcoming relegation fight.
Begrudgingly, I eventually accepted the other Blue Army members’ point; Tielemans subsequently got stuck in and produced comparatively improved performances to last term. Not to mention that the midfield maestro has now started scoring stunning goals once more. Above you can see my trite tweet to him. Although I am aware that he probably won’t ever see the note, I believe I speak for the majority of supporters on this one.
Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans reportedly joining EPL club free as another team withdraw
My sentiment is almost certainly mere wishful thinking because transfer experts such as Fabrizio Romano have claimed for a long time that Tielemans shall not re-sign with the King Power outfit. In addition to that trustworthy report, another story which the Express published states that Juventus are out of the race and Arsenal will capture the player at the end of 2022/23.
