Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans’ future remains in question, will he stay for a little longer or will he go? Here is what is likely next for the ‘Starman’.

The Belgian international has little time left on his King Power contract, and should the situation not develop will be out of contract in time for the summer transfer window. However, that is perhaps not the most likely resolution to this disappointing saga.

The Importance of Youri Tielemans

The Belgian ‘Starman’ is one of the most integral talents at the club. The Foxes’ midfielder is in the 87th percentile for tackling quantity, 80th for shot-creating actions, and 74th for progressive passing. At his best, Tielemans is the progressive backbone and slowly becoming a defensive asset.

Despite a rocky start, the Belgian No.8 has undeniable quality. Adding neatness, passion, and consistency to the side, you know what you are getting when you play Tielemans. Of course, any side which has this international star will be drastically improved; as Brendan Rodgers has found out in recent weeks as well.

This is the unquestionable reason for the whole situation. The ‘Starman’ deserves to be performing in the UEFA Champions League or at the very least European competition, not just domestic leagues and cups. Tielemans’ quality makes him a key target for any club looking for a new progressive player. Further, all the power is with the player.

Leicester City’s next step

According to the Daily Mail – so questionable information follows – Leicester are quietly confident of reaching a positive conclusion to the saga. Now, they suggest this means a new contract for the player, yet I believe this is not necessarily the whole truth.

The Foxes will be hopeful they can at least not lose such an integral player on a free. This means they would be aiming for a short-term extension with a promise to sell at the right price in the summer.

This is the most likely resolution. A bumper deal to make money off of a sale, yet still ending up with the withdrawal of the Belgian from the King Power. A sombre yet inevitable conclusion unless Leicester miraculously make it into European competition at this point.
