Stylistically, FB Ref and SmarterScout point towards a specific nature of a forward: the Kelechi Iheanacho archetype. That is, Dia is within the 87th percentile for strikers in terms of assists, 78th for pass completion, 69th for interceptions; also finding himself rated 93/100 for dribbling tendency and 88/100 for link up play.

The implications are obvious. The Senegalese forward is imagined as a replacement for a possibly out-going Iheanacho. Otherwise, there is no reason to sign a forward who likes to drop back, get involved deeper, and passes a lot. In essence, the forward is one of those preparations for players leaving and not considered anywhere near the starting XI.

A French midfielder

Brendan Rodgers‘ side have been linked to the signing of a couple midfielders. This is possibly due to the impending loss of Youri Tielemans and the disuse of Papy Mendy. Either a new progressive midfielder is required, or cover for Wilfred Ndidi is needed.

At the moment, I would argue Boubakary Soumare has earned his place when the Belgian ‘Starman’ departs the King Power. Nevertheless, another DM could prove useful – especially one for the future.
