Ahead of Newcastle United versus Leicester City in the League Cup quarterfinals, Foxes of Leicester publish a predicted XI for the King Power club.

A match at the footballing cauldron that is St. James’ Park is arguably the last thing that LCFC need. The ground is nearly the least ideal English visit for the east Midlands team at the moment, anyway. Although, that is the task facing the Foxes on Tuesday evening.

However, as this is a quarterfinal matchup – albeit in the less imaginative or even lowly EFL competition – and the chance to be two games away from relative glory. Incidentally, Leicester have lifted that particular trophy on three occasions. I should know, I was there for the most recent triumph in 2000.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are going from strength to strength; worryingly, for those around them in the Premier League, the Magpies have elevated drastically without breaking the bank. In fact, the shrewdness of the new owners on Tyneside is quite astonishing. Their decisions and new-ish boss Eddie Howe’s impact are reminiscent of LCFC in the not too distant past.

Astute purchases, also similar to the King Power strategy, have paid off. Even the players considered peripheral or underperforming are now almost overly impressive. Yes, Miguel Almiron, I am looking at you, and I am impressively bewildered.

This upcoming clash may well be one tough outing for the Blue Army to witness though: Howe is committed to fielding his ‘strongest possible side‘ to face Brendan Rodgers’ men. That news from the North is certainly not encouraging for Rodgers’ Leicester squad. Injuries have made for a perilous situation on Filbert Way: eight athletes are currently sidelined, if FoL’s maths is accurate.

During his pre-match press conference, the Northern Irishman detailed the absentees as: James Maddison, Ryan Bertrand, James Justin, Dennis Praet, Jonny Evans, Boubakary Soumare, Ricardo Pereira and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Patson Daka recovered to feature against Gillingham in the FA Cup win. Therefore we can expect a lineup like the one below:
