Fabrizio Romano’s update on Leicester’s Nico Gonzalez pursuit
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided a crucial update on Leicester City’s transfer pursuit of Nico Gonzalez. Here is what we know thus far.
Of course, everything is merely rumour and speculation at the moment. However, Romano has often been called a ‘tap in merchant’ or a ‘transfer guru’ – that is to say, the journalist is well-sourced and only comments on topics he is sure on. This has built a reputation for accuracy.
The Foxes have yet to make any signings this window, and with a bloated squad filled with deadwood and driftwood, Brendan Rodgers will be looking to let go of some and bring others in. It would seem there are two close deals.
Fabrizio Romano’s update and Leicester City sales
Firstly, the King Power club will need to make space for any new signing. They can bring the player in before a sale, but someone will have to be left out to utilise any new signing. The Fox likely in question is Spaniard Ayoze Perez.
As we have already written about, ‘Ayo’ is likely leaving Leicester this window, with a return to Spain the preferred choice. That makes space either in attacking-midfield or on the right-wing, where the currently injured James Maddison was performing up until recent weeks.
According to Romano, the Argentinian forward has agreed personal terms with the East Midlands club. There are no details as to the exact contents of the deal, although we can expect some of Perez’s wages to go towards the 24-year-old sought after winger. It is also best to expect this deal is not to be completed this week.
Fiorentina want more than what Rodgers’ side are putting down. Apparently £30m is on the table, which is a fairly large outlay for a single player. The Argentinian is entering his prime, has previously proven himself on both flanks, and does offer a significant potential for a prolific winger going forward. That is a lot of money though. Add on top those possible wages, and the Foxes are spending a great deal of money on one talent. The winger would become the first team right-winger, ‘Madders’ would then likely move back into that ‘CAM’ position, and we would have a fairly strong front line.
