Leicester EPL title-winner may be in trouble for slandering referee
A Leicester City Premier League title-winner may be in trouble for slandering a referee. Foxes of Leicester explain the strange situation of ex-King Power club defender Danny Simpson.
Simpson lifted the EPL crown in 2015/16 with his fellow LCFC immortals. He last played for Bristol City; the rightback is not believed to be retired just yet at age-36. At the moment, he makes television and social media appearance as a pundit.
But Simpson might be in hot water now, after making a shocking claim about former top-flight referee Mark Clattenburg. The Manchester United Academy graduate suggested that Clattenburg failed to send off a Fox because he wanted Leicester to win the league in 2016:
"“To suggest I told a player that I wanted Leicester to win the league is ridiculous. It would have been picked up by our microphones.“I did not book Danny Drinkwater during that season. His claims have absolutely no substance and I have no idea why, seven years later, he has chosen to say this. The matter is now with my lawyer.”– Mark Clattenburg"
Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester City team were unlucky not to win against Southampton
Leicester fans were rightly upset with the season-damaging defeat to the Saints on the English South Coast. Many, many chances to score were squandered by the east Midlands side. On numerous attacking occasions Leicester forwards and midfielders failed to produce a telling impact at St. Mary’s Stadium. There were even times when selfish unnamed Foxes could have easily and neatly squared the ball to a teammate for a tap-in but failed to be team players.
Nevertheless, I don’t think the squad and Brendan Rodgers deserved to be booed at the end of the game. Nor do I believe chanting for Rodgers to be sacked was pertinent or accurate on the day. Leicester should have been victorious; the athletes can’t be questioned for effort, just the final ball and execution.
While the King Power club are now in a far more perilous position than previous, following giving a relegation competitor an undeserved three points, all is not lost. At the time of writing, which is during the Nottingham Forest versus Everton clash, the Leicestershire outfit sit 15th. That placement is directly underneath Midlands rivals Forest and above Everton, in spite of the Toffees currently winning. Leicester have Chelsea, Brentford and Crystal Palace up next; all winnable yet tough fixtures.
