Silko Thomas in, Luke Thomas out: latest Leicester transfer rumours
Leicester City’s transfer window is heating up in the final few days. Here is an update on Luke Thomas, Silko Thomas, and more.
The King Power Club are yet to use the English left-back this campaign. New loanee signing Callum Doyle has been preferred as the left-back which tucks into LCB, whereas others have been preferred for the more forward-looking or midfield fullback roles. Thomas has been frozen, and Enzo Maresca is looking to offload the academy product to make room for more attacking signings.
Leicester have already announced the signing of Turkish winger Yunus Akgün, and it looks like they are to add to their youth ranks with the English right-winger Thomas. Check out our article on other likely deals here for more on the window.
Leicester City transfer update
Regarding the starlet left-back, it would seem there is interest in his signature from Championship rivals Leeds United. The relegated side are struggling with defensive injuries and myriad players leaving the club for new pastures. Luckily for the Foxes, less have left, but more are to leave before the window shuts.
However, no formal bid has been made as of yet if those reports are to be believed. Nevertheless, my opinion is that Thomas has been a very good player for us: he was thrust into Premier League action before his time, yet the player fought valiantly, performed excellently, and earned his spot as the starting left-back. This all changed after a string of less convincing defending in the following season, so although an attacking threat, there were still areas to work on. Brendan Rodgers did not improve this aspect, and Maresca is uninterested in doing this.
Outside of that, former Chelsea U23 starlet Silko Thomas has performed in a couple of trialist matches with Leicester City’s U23s, and the Foxes are battling it out with Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland for the signature of this Chelsea wantaway. The London club have a brilliant star-studded academy, so any signing from there will be beneficial to the King Power club. It is believed Thomas prefers the East Midlands relegated side over either the established Championship sides.
Meanwhile, Timothy Castagne has been confirmed as a Fulham player. A reported fee of around £15m is a little depressing considering how high his valuation once was, but with Ricardo Pereira, Doyle, and a different system, the Belgian fullback does not fit with ‘Marescaball’.
