Leicester City’s poor contract management has hurt them tremendously these past couple of seasons. They signed players to long extensions, ran out of money in the budget, and then let players on a free contract. Just last season we saw this happen with Youri Tielemans, Çağlar Söyüncü, and others.

It appears The Foxes have found themselves in the same predicament again. Twelve players will be out of contract come the end of the season. Some are key players to the squad, some we can afford to lose, and some are legends whose time might just be coming to an end.

Firstly, the greatest player in Leicester City history has just one season left on his contract. Jamie Vardy has done it all during his legendary run with the squad. If his contract isn’t renewed, it is likely the 36-year-old will retire.

Another club legend, Marc Albrighton, has his contract run out come June. The 33-year-old has been with the club since 2014. If the club doesn’t re-sign him, they will struggle to find a player with that much experience and loyalty.

Two Nigerians who play a vital role in the squad are also set to have their agreements expire at the end of the season. Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have both done so much for the squad. Iheanacho has single handily won the team the FA Cup while Ndidi was once one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.

Losing these two players on a free deal would be a massive mistake by the club. What adds salt to the wounds is the fact teams were interested in signing both of these players this summer transfer window.

The bad news sadly does not end there. The contracts of key players like Dennis Praet and Hamza Choudhury run out at the end of the season. Alex Smithies has yet to make an appearance with the squad and his contract may run out before he even appears. Finally, Leicester will lose all of their loanees if they don’t buy them, such as Cesare Casadei and Callum Doyle.

The East Midlands team is stuck in a sticky situation they’ve found themselves in multiple seasons in a row. If management doesn’t get on top of their stuff, they will lose out on a ton of money.
