Unsurprisingly the transfer window for Leicester City saw a major revamp throughout the squad. With 15 players leaving the club since the end of last season as well as nine players joining during this period.

Despite the amount of signings the Foxes have made, it was somewhat of a quaint deadline day for the East Midlands club. With the only incoming player being that of 20-year-old Tom Cannon for the fee of £7.5 million from Everton. It seems as though the man who oversaw this squad transition Enzo Maresca, is pleased with not only with the addition of young Cannon, but the position the squad is in as a whole.

"As reported by Leicestershire Live, Maresca spoke about Cannon, saying:“He’s a young profile, he’s a very good player. Last year from January to June he scored eight goals, so he knows quite well the Championship. But we have Kele (Iheanacho), Jamie (Vardy), Pato (Daka) with us, so we have different options”."

When asked about the overall business City have done this window he said, “Completely. I think we added nine new players. Between the players with expired contracts and those who left, there were 15. Fifteen out and nine inside, it’s a way to refresh a little bit with the players”.

Cannon impressed during his loan spell at Preston North End in the Championship last season as Maresca alluded to. However, a big difference was that he played in a front two within this successful period. Also playing a lot on the shoulder of defenders while in that role. As of yet there has been no evidence to suggest that Maresca will opt for a two striker system, nor has the Italian alluded to using one.

This does bode the question of how exactly Cannon will be used seeing as his strengths are being on the shoulder. What will excite City fans is that he scored those eight goals last season with just an xG of 5.03. Meaning he way outperformed his xG, suggesting the quality of his goals were that of an elite finisher. This is something LCFC has struggled with immensely in the start of their campaign, the output of the forward line has not been up to standard.

It seems that this is an aspect which Cannon can help with – and then some. It can also allow Leicester City to be a lot more dynamic and flexible with their attacking approach given the amount of quality centre forwards at their disposal.
