Leicester City fell to defeat against Premier League opposition Liverpool as the side performed valiantly. However, there were those who faired worse off.

The King Power club played valiantly in a 3-1 loss to a clearly superior side. It was not a bruising defeat either, although the result could very easily have been far worse if the Reds had converted more of their chances against us.

So, it might seem a little rough to say the Foxes let us down, but there were individuals who – to be honest – did not perform exactly to expectations. For me, the midfield was the worst side of our performance, with Liverpool utterly shredding our midfield into pieces to create the vast majority of their chances. Were it not for Harry Souttar and Conor Coady, Leicester would have conceded more as a result.

These Leicester City players let us down

This list will inevitably feel a little rough on the players, as you could hardly have expected anything else when Leicester was drawn against Liverpool. First then, I would say our ‘Seniorman’ Kelechi Iheanacho had a disappointing outing.

The Nigerian forward had just 23 touches throughout the 64 minutes played. This included 10 times the player lost possession for the Foxes, and with a system dependent upon having prolonged spells of possession to create chances, losing it is a sin. Once again, a striker not being involved enough or clinical enough in those small moments meant LCFC created little of note.

Meanwhile, in midfield Cesare Casadei was ineffective and probably the wrong option for Enzo Maresca. I mean really, playing an inexperienced attacking midfielder against a team which would require significantly greater defensive work-rate was just plainly incorrect. That should have been Wilfred Ndidi or Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Plus, the Italian midfielder only touched the ball 21 times, losing possession seven times, and failing to win the ball back on multiple occasions as he is not used to tracking late entrants at the edge of the penalty area.

Finally, and most harshly, James Justin. The English fullback is a talented and versatile defender very capable of playing against Premier League opposition. However, that fixture was not his match: against explosive, creative, and technically gifted opposition, JJ struggled to control the wing and lacked the presence to breakup attacking plays. The only positive is that at least he did not get a yellow card for his troubles.
