SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND – SEPTEMBER 15: Stephy Mavididi of Leicester City applauds the fans after the team’s victory in the Sky Bet Championship match between Southampton FC and Leicester City at Friends Provident St. Mary’s Stadium on September 15, 2023 in Southampton, United Kingdom. Stephy Mavididi – 7

Mavididi was a constant threat throughout the first half with his quick jinks causing the Lilywhites backline big problems. However, he lacked a final product at times as the visitors frustrated the home side in the first half.

Abdul Fatawu – 6

Was a bit ineffective last night. His attempts at luring the Preston defence out were unsuccessful and the summer signing failed to stamp his authority on the game.

Jamie Vardy – 5

Struggled to get involved in the match, after a string of impressive performances. He fell victim to the defensive resilience of Preston in the first half as he was closely marked and the spaces for him to attack were small.

Substitutes

Yunus Akgun – 6

The Turkish midfielder has looked impressive in his cameos and the game against PNEFC was no different. He came on and looked very tidy in midfield. His minutes may increase as a result of the unfortunate injury to McAteer against Blackburn.

Marc Albrighton – 7

Almost set up one of the goals of the season as he crossed the ball over to Iheanacho whose shot was saved into the feet of Dewsbury-Hall who finished.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 7

Offered a different attacking approach to Vardy as the Nigerian dropped deep to collect the ball and build the attacks himself. Took his goal well, but he won’t have an easier finish all season.

Hamza Choudhury – 6

Nothing to note. He came on and was professional in seeing the game out.
