PORTIMAO, PORTUGAL – OCTOBER 13: Kelechi Iheanacho of Nigeria and Leicester City celebrates with team mates Wilfred Ndidi after scoring his goal ,during the International Friendly match between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria at Estadio Municipal de Portimao on October 13, 2023 in Portimao, Portugal. Ndidi’s absence in the last few games has shown how important he has become to Enzo Maresca’s style of play. Cesare Casadei has struggled to make an impact, showing the inconsistency that is perhaps inevitable for a young player with little experience of English football. Recognising this, the Leicester boss brought in Hamza Choudhury at the Riverside thus allowing Ricardo Pereira to occupy the number eight role. Both did reasonably well but are clearly been played out of position.

There is no shortage of suitors for Iheanacho and Ndidi. West Ham, Palace and Brighton are said to be interested in the Nigerian striker whilst Teamtalk have reported that Spurs, Newcastle and Villa, along with European giants Barcelona, are keen on Ndidi. It is doubtful if Leicester would turn down a sizeable bid for either player. I suspect, though, that the club would be extremely reluctant to lose both. The financial windfall that accompanies promotion to the Premier League would more than make up for losing a player for free at the end of the season. Much may depend on the attitude of the players themselves. Iheanacho has strongly hinted that he wanted to go following relegation. Ndidi, on the other hand, has suggested that he was keen to stay after buying into the Maresca philosophy.

Vestergaard’s position is a little different. Not many Leicester fans would have shed a tear had he left in the summer. Now, though, he has become a pivotal part of City’s defence. The Belgium giants Anderlecht expressed an interest in the centre back during the summer and may be tempted to make an offer in January. It is unlikely that a bid would be accepted by the Foxes but if an offer was too good to refuse the club has adequate cover in the shape of Coady and Souttar.
