3 Things to know about Leicester City transfer target Albert Grønbæk
Leicester City will need reinforcements to continue their startling form, be that in January or in the summer. One such option is Albert Grønbæk.
Enzo Maresca’s Foxes have only just tilted slightly on the rails as back-to-back losses to Middlesbrough and Leeds United cause frustration although not damnation for Leicester. To combat this in the future, the Italian head coach will have to be less reliant on particular players to keep firing the goals and bring in more goal-scorers and creators to compete.
This is where the consideration of Grønbæk comes into play. The Danish midfielder offers an exciting prospect with stats back in up a stylistically suited play style. Honestly, it feels a little mute to write a whole article on why we should try to sign the Dane, but, here we go.
3 Things Leicester City need to know
The Danish midfielder is interesting. As is the usual, I will detail position and style, as well as value and where I believe Grønbæk Will fit into Leicester. We have already briefly covered over positioning and style, so a little more depth is in order.
Grønbæk is a versatile and creative attack-minded central midfielder. He wears the No. 8 for his current club, so would occupy the role that Youri Tielemans once held at the King Power, although not the same as our current No. 8. He is not defensive, and is more similar in style to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
As can be seen from the players heatmap, the Dane will freely traverse across the pitch to provide progressive and creative support, but it also often the one receiving the final pass and taking a shot at goal. This has led the midfielder to perform very well against both compact defences where his technical ability shines, and wide open defences where his quality and strength works well.
Value-wise, Grønbæk‘s contract does not expire until 2027, so there will be no freebies or cutthroat deals to be had here. The player is the regular first team midfielder, so trying to pry him away from Norway will inevitably incur a cost in excess of realistic value. Transfermarkt rate the player around £6.5m so a deal around £7.5m would be more likely.
Maresca would possibly be considering the player as competition for KDH, as when the blitzing academy graduate does not fire, having another option would be for the best. The impressive Danish talent might also be better alongside KDH and Harry Winks rather than Wilfred Ndidi. In such a case, Leicester City would have two No. 8’s which is more suited to Maresca’s system. This is a move I would greatly approve of in January or the summer.
