Aston Villa and Leicester City fans don't get along that well in general. The two clubs are not exactly rivals, as their fan base loves to point out for some unknown reason! That is probably why they collectively annoy the Blue Army: we know you hate Birmingham City most of all, we are all too aware!
But there is a definite rivalry between the Foxes and the Villa! I can attest to this easily due to actual experience from games at Filbert Street and King Power Stadium over the years. Just look back at their ridiculously over the top on-pitch celebrations when making the Carabao Cup Final (of all competitions), on January, 28 2020 versus LCFC.
The Villans ultimately lost 2-1 to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City on their big day. That makes it nearly 30 years since they won a trophy (which was also the prestigious English Football League Cup). Maybe these instances are why they celebrate so wildly when they defeat City - in spite of 'not caring about Leicester'.
We don't particularly have the Second City team on our minds either, though animosity does come up now and again. But why do I explain all this? Well, an ex-AVFC star has claimed that Leicester deserve to regain their Premier League status. Hate for the Foxes has seemingly changed to admiration from Villa Park alumni. Joke.
Leicester City truly appraised by former competitor and current Sky Sports pundit
Lee Hendrie, who played for teams such as Villa, Derby County and Sheffield United, has been speaking about the Filbert Way outfit. Hendrie also enjoyed a brief spell at the King Power on loan. So he does know Midlands footy, to be fair.
"There are a lot of clubs in the Championship that certainly should be in the Premier League.Lee Hendrie, FLW
“Leicester are definitely one of them, for sure. I think they have always been part of that as well."
Anyway, the 48-year-old (who still has the same baby face) has suggested that the East Midlanders, 'belong in the Premier League'. In addition to that, he says Southampton and, predictably, Birmingham should be at the apex of English football.
