Relegation down to League One will open the floor for some talents who had been forgotten about at the King Power to shine again.

Indeed, Harry Souttar could finally become a first-team presence week in week out again, after suffering from some horrible injury luck.

He looked assured during Leicester's final two outings in the Championship, with a commanding 16 duels won, as he prepares to roll his sleeves up in League One to gain some much-needed game time.

Alongside Souttar, Nathan Opoku might well fancy his chances of finally breaking into the Leicester first team fold, having arrived at the Foxes in 2023 in a surprise transfer swoop.

Who is Opoku?

In January 2023, it would be confirmed that Leicester were signing the wide-eyed forward from FDM Field Masters Sporting Club, but he would immediately be sent out on loan to OH Leuven in Belgium.

He hasn't really been heard of since, when it comes to staking a claim for a starting spot for the former Premier League winners, as he was hardly an inspired talent plying his trade in the Jupiler Pro League with only four goals next to his name.

Yet, with Leicester sinking to League One, and the likes of Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew surely ready to abandon the club, a door could well open back up for the Ghanaian centre-forward to finally prove himself at a senior level for the Midlands side.

He has two goals next to his name for the U21s, after all, and he is just fresh off a loan stint that saw him excel in patches in League Two, under the wing of Christian Fuchs at Newport County.

Why Opoku might finally be given a shot

Fuchs has even been tipped to take on the reins for Leicester in a post-Gary Rowett reality, with the hunt for new permanent manager dragging on.

Away from all this manager speculation, Opoku will fancy his chances of bursting into the first-team picture, regardless of who is chosen to fill a spot in the King Power dug-out.

The Accra-born attacker would finally cut his teeth in the punishing English game, while out on loan in Wales this season just gone, with six goals and three assists next to his name from 30 outings for The Exiles. This return actually made him Newport's top scorer come the end of the campaign.

Looking back, his opening goal last month against Harrogate Town was key to Newport's survival chances, as he set the tone for a 2-1 win, which led to Harrogate suffering relegation, while County pulled off a great escape.

He might just be deemed the right character to throw into games next season for Leicester, having shone during bleak times in Wales during this loan spell.

He will definitely be handed pre-season to impress at the very least, with a new contract agreed for him at the King Power in March pointing in the direction that he is going to be kept on to play a first team role in the near future.

It's a long time coming for Opoku, who has been on the Foxes books since 2023.

Bit, his first ever start for the club could finally come his way next season, as a forgotten figure possibly becomes a beloved cult hero as Leicester immediately try to win promotion.
