Gary Lineker suggests his dream Steve Cooper replacement at Leicester

Speaking on his podcast, Gary Lineker has put forward his dream Steve Cooper replacement at Leicester City. It might be hard to execute.

Gary Lineker is the type of character where when he talks, Leicester City fans shut up and listen. Unfortunately, this was not the same for Steve Cooper who, while trying his best, never managed to gain the respect of Leicestser supports.

Or... The club in general, for that matter. This is why, shortly after Leicester City's disappointing loss to Chelsea (made even more disappointing by the man who was in the other touchline), Leicester decided to sack Steve Cooper.

Cooper has gained a little more respect from the Foxes. Certainly, he is less hated on Filbert Way than he was when he managed Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to The Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker suggested that Lee Carsley would do a great job of replacing Steve Cooper at Leicester City. The former Fox was met with an agreement by co-host and Man City legend Micah Richards.

In his own words, Lineker said: “I’d go with Lee Carsley [to replace Steve Cooper]... I think there’s... reluctance in the Premier League [to bring in less experienced managers]... but the way that England players responded to him, you could tell that they respected him as a coach... I would think of someone like that, if they don’t go down the tried and trusted route for someone like David Moyes.”

While it is difficult to disagree with Gary Lineker, I think the key takeaways from his point here is that David Moyes is "tried and tested." Lee Carsley, on the other hand, is not. At least not at this level.

It would be a gamble for Leicester to hire Lee Carsley at this stage. They are still tipped to avoid relegation but by bringing in the interim England manager, they might jeopardise their chances.

By hiring David Moyes, Leicester City would only be maximising their chances of avoiding the drop. To bring back an old saying, it wouldn't be Moyes' first rodeo.

In my humble opinion, David Moyes should've never lost his West Ham job. In fact, I am confident that if you were to ask any Hammer, they would bring back Moyes in a heart-beat.

If he could leave behind even half the legacy at the King Power as he did in London, then Leicester fans would benefit.
