Since The Telegraph's Midlands guru John Percy stated that Russell Martin was in "advanced discussions" with Leicester City over the weekend, nothing of substance has occurred. As a matter of fact, everything that this writer has observed since implies that the erstwhile Southampton, Swansea City, Rangers and MK Dons tactician will not, in the final estimation, be hired by the Foxes.

First of all, Percy peculiarly declared Martin yet to agree to City's terms, in spite of them being reportedly and relatively lucrative. There is an unmistakable uncertainty over how those finances will ultimately pan out, obviously, considering the often-precarious nature of LCFC'S modern track record concerning PSRs.

Anyway, without digressing for too long, Percy rarely (if ever) publishes pieces of such gravity without a firm belief that a formal agreement is pending. Subsequently, the sudden emergence of Dutch assistant/head coach Rene Hake as a viable contender was immediately linked; many outlets covered the story, giving at least slight credence to a pivot in Leicester's managerial pursuit.

It would be entirely natural to have also expected a resolution to this managerial vacuum now that it is Tuesday afternoon (at the time of publishing). The current exodus of personnel on the verge of leaving King Power Stadium also feels entirely incongruous to Martin's philosophies.

Finally, the 40-year-old was ostensibly attempting to raid sides like Rangers and West Bromwich Albion to reunite with his former, trusted assistants. However, it appears coach Matt Gill has opted to remain within the comfortable confines of the Baggies, leaving Martin without his most crucial tactical lieutenant.

"Recent suggestions indicated that additions could be considered if assistant Matt Gill opted against remaining at the club, but it now appears he is set to stay put."

Not to mention the persistent, stable murmurings of Burnley also apparently eyeing Martin as a potential solution to their own impending managerial requirements. Does this collective hesitation and the apparent breakdown of his planned backroom ensemble mean Martin will ultimately fail to arrive in LE2?
