According to John Percy of The Telegraph, one of the most reliable conduits for English football intelligence particularly within the Midlands vicinity, all that remains at Leicester City is for Russell Martin to formalise his acceptance of terms. Last week, whispers emanated from the East Midlands suggesting the club had been offering increasingly lucrative inducements to the Brighton-born former Scotland international.

Some will surmise that the financial incentives may have inflated significantly since City's previous failed pursuit. Alternatively, perhaps the board is proverbially throwing out the kitchen sink in a desperate bid to secure their preferred candidate.

Truth be told, there are few within the Blue Army who currently understand or advocate for this particular installation. Nevertheless, this writer persists in the notion that Martin's prior successes in lower divisions offer a sliver of optimism; indeed, dismissing him when Leicester eventually ascend to the Premier League might be a more palatable prospect than his immediate failure.

Russell Martin is said to be already gathering recruits with Leicester City announcement imminent

Joking and general reluctance aside, Martin appears to conduct a more rigorous degree of due diligence than the King Power International Group and their current operatives, who have steered the Foxes into such a profound state of disarray. Fresh intelligence from north of the border, where the 40-year-old endured a harrowing tenure with Rangers in his most recent post, suggests Martin is already orchestrating a a coup.

This proactive determination and clear-sighted planning will likely provide some solace to the more measured members of the Leicester faithful. First, Martin apparently has set his sights on the appointment of sports science chief Rhys Owen.

"He [Martin] has already made his move for long-time assistant Matt Gill"

The Gers will reportedly be 'raided' for Leicester to secure Owen's services. Furthermore, Matt Gill could well rejoin his old partner as an assistant, should he be successfully relinquished by West Bromwich Albion.
