Several Leicester City players are currently trying to orchestrate moves away from the sinking ship that is the Foxes.

Indeed, it has been widely reported all the Premier League interest Abdul Fatawu has already received this summer, with the likes of top-flight staples Aston Villa and Everton reportedly keen.

Moreover, other faces in the Foxes squad, such as Harry Winks and Patson Daka, are pushing for the exit door simply just to end their wretched stays, rather than having a move to the Premier League in mind.

Harry Souttar is in a strange position hurtling into the summer transfer window, as the 27-year-old is an accomplished Championship performer on his day, but he could be prepared to stick it out in League One after an injury-ravaged season just gone.

Souttar's horrific luck with injuries

Only fit enough to make two Championship appearances this season just gone for the Foxes, Souttar has been through the wringer when it comes to horrible injury luck.

Sidelined for 71 games in total, after rupturing his Achilles tendon out on loan with Sheffield United during the 2024/25 campaign, the Australia international finally made his long awaited return for Leicester, at the close of the season against Millwall and Blackburn Rovers.

He stood out, too, as a determined performer, despite his lengthy spell out of the team through injury, with a goal even picked up for his troubles against Alex Neil's men.

At Ewood Park on the final day as well, Souttar would win nine duels bravely, to remind everyone of his prowess in the air.

Before injury disaster struck, the 27-year-old did have a reputation for being a battling presence in the EFL's elite league, with 87 second tier appearances under his belt for the likes of Stoke City, as well as featuring for the Blades and the Foxes.

He impressed so much for Stoke during the 2020/21 season, in the Championship, that then manager Michael O'Neill said he had "all the attributes" to perform at the very top.

Unfortunately for Souttar, football can be a cruel sport, as he now stares down the barrel of playing in League One again, as he did with Fleetwood Town once upon a time, before launching himself into the second tier.

Yet, he could be offered a chance to excel in the Championship, away from the King Power...

Souttar could be handed another Championship chance

We are firmly at the stage now of the off-season when pundits and journalists alike tip teams to make transfers.

Sheffield Star journalist George Smith is urging the South Yorkshire outfit to re-sign Souttar, despite all his well-known injury difficulties.

He said, in a transfer report for the Star: "Defender and former Blades loanee Harry Souttar is one name that is already earning a lot of mentions among Blades supporters. After more than a year on the sidelines with an Achilles injury, he started the final two games of Leicester’s Championship campaign, grabbing a goal in a 1-1 draw with Millwall in the process.

“A towering, imposing figure of Souttar’s profile is just the sort of character United need to add to their ranks after a difficult 2025/26 campaign. Bringing him back to Bramall Lane, for example, would undoubtedly see him slot straight into Wilder’s first-choice starting XI.”

Chris Wilder has crossed paths with Souttar in the past, with the no-nonsense manager describing the Aussie international as "outstanding" during his loan stint in 2024, before a horror injury stopped him in his tracks.

With the Blades leaking goals for fun last season, it would make sense for Wilder and Co. to back in for a defender they will feel they have unfinished business with, with Smith labelling Souttar as "imposing."

While the injury-prone defender would be tempted by a return to Bramall Lane, he will also know his injury difficulties could come back to haunt him, and he would be a starter in League One for the Foxes, who have been so patient with him.
