It's been a year of change at Leicester City Football Club. First of all, we changed divisions again; the dreaded yo-yo status was widely reapplied. Although swapping the Premier League for the Championship wasn't the only difference on Filbert Way in a worrying 2025 so far. Jamie Vardy, the talismanic legend who will never be replaced or forgotten, departed King Power Stadium. The task of replacing the ex-England centre forward amid financial restrictions and mounting problems has gone about as well as you'd expect it to have.
City must now return to the previous policy which served them so well: development and discovery. LCFC must develop their own Academy products; a wonderful aspect of the East Midlanders' set-up, especially this decade. In addition to that, a Brentford-esque 'moneyball' approach for hidden talent is the transfer market is preferable to spending fortunes on underwhelming talents (I believe LCFC pioneered that particular technique, anyway).
Could one star of the Seagrave Under-21s be promoted and do a job? Meanwhile, will the Foxes hierarchy choose to cash in on another? Further upheaval could soon transpire at Leicester.
Hamza Choudhury to be sold and Jake Evans to enjoy proper promotion at Leicester City?
When a team has goalscoring issues, they may look to their most prominent and experienced youth group. Highly regarded young forward Evans fits the bill in that sense.
The 17-year-old has bagged six goals in seven outings for the young Foxes. In the meantime, when asked of the promising prospect, Marti Cifuentes claimed that Evans is "in our plans for the future".
"When speaking about Evans at the start of the month, Cifuentes said the 17-year-old needed to “show the things we want him to show in the Under-21s, then there will be opportunities for him”."
Of course, that statement is ambiguous. Yet I imagine the Northampton-born player is close to further first team involvement as a substitute.
Though Choudhury may finally leave after so many loans; he never quite solidified a permanent City starting role. Former adopted home Sheffield United may test Leicester's resolve in January:
"Sheffield United will continue to monitor the availability of former loanee Hamza Choudhury, The Star has been told, as they consider a move when the transfer market reopens for business in January. "
