Earlier today, we were informed that the Leicester City fanbase would be addressed by the chairman Khun Top.
It's rare that the fanbase is addressed directly, at least in recent history. The news came at the same time as Leicester being on the hunt for more reinforcements to the higher-up team, a hunt that was led by Khun Top himself.
However, during that communication, Khun Top went above and beyond, and it was how he opened the interview that caught the most repsect from Leicester fans worldwide.
Khun Top campaigns for a better club culture at Leicester
In his own words, Khun Top said: "It's been so long since the last time I spoke to the fans, and I think it's about time that I want to share all the information... Asking all the fans to come closer together. As the interim CEO, I want the club to be the same like when I came in the first time."
That's something that all the Leicester fans could get behind, if only it was that easy. The club was once a joy to be around because they were exceeding expectations. Now, though, the club is vastle underperforming those expectations, and the standard of football is not quite what it once was.
Before the Premier League winning season, the time when Leicester rightfully defied all the odds and became champions, Leicester fans wouldn't have batted an eyelid at being mid-table in the Championship.
However, in the words of James, now Leicester has seen such riches, they cannot live with being poor.
Nevertheless, Top's speech was brilliant. We cannot ask him to go out there and defend for us. We know that he would give his 100%, but what he can do right now is communicate, and he did exactly that.
What Leicester fans have been crying out for for the longest time, and for good reason, is for the club to be more communicative with the fanbase. Top taking that responsibility is a sign that he cares, and that has to count for something.
"The first year that we owned the club in 2010, I did have that conversation with many fans and I hear them. That time, I felt connected and I think that is a good way to do it."
"For whatever reason, [open communication between club and fans] has been gone for quite a while. After many things, COVID, the communication is gone... I never forget to communicate; it's not easy at times, I feel how the fan perceives, and that's main reason why today I want to reconnect and let [fans] understand... football clubs need fans to support."
While there will be some fans who find some way to critique this or paint it under a negative brush, there are no bad words to say about Top here.
He has come out on an open forum, which is not easy to do when so many people are angry, and campaigned for a culture change, while only holding himself accountable.
If this is the beginning of what's to come under the new Leicester leadership team, then fans can certainly get on board with it. Failing with a public face is better than failing with a hidden face.
