Jamie Vardy couldn't quite keep Cremonese up in the Serie A.
A respectable return of seven goals and three assists for the Italian side, from 29 league appearances, just wasn't enough to keep Marco Giampaolo's men afloat in the top division, with Vardy now set to leave the club after a one-season adventure, as his contract runs out this summer.
A return to the English game looks to be on the cards for the 39-year-old poacher, with Sheffield Wednesday, and Leicester, allegedly keen on handing the much-loved striker a route back into the EFL.
This isn't the only transfer battle forming between the Foxes and the Owls, however, who will likely be promotion rivals next season in League One, as a potential loan signing has caught both their eyes.
Wednesday and Leicester are in another transfer race
After horrible collective seasons in the Championship, both the South Yorkshire giants and the one-time Premier League champions will be hoping that League One is a more stable environment for them next season.
Signings aplenty will be needed, and it appears that both relegated teams are in the hunt for Matty Young on loan, as the up-and-coming Sunderland goalkeeper seeks out another loan, after playing in League Two last season for playoff final losers Salford City.
Having just signed a new contract with the Black Cats, it's clear that Young is tipped to have a very bright future in the beautiful game.
But, at 19 years of age, he isn't the finished product, and as Sky Sports reports, both the Owls and Leicester want a fresh keeper option heading into the new campaign, hence their interest in the highly rated stopper.
With Jakub Stolarczyk only keeping six clean sheets all of last season in league action, it does make sense that a new, fresh keeper option is on the Foxes' shopping list, with the hope that Young can instantly acclimatise to the pressures of League One football.
If his Salford loan spell is anything to go by, he should be a hit, moving up a division.
Young could be a great signing
Young will be ready to test himself in League One next season, if either Leicester or Wednesday get their hands on the 19-year-old.
Salford might well have fallen at the final hurdle in their pursuit of promotion, as Notts County humbled Karl Robinson and Co. 3-0 in the playoff final, but the Ammies' number one was a standout performer throughout the regular campaign.
Indeed, Young would collect an impressive 15 clean sheets across 44 League Two outings, with two penalty saves also thrown in for good measure.

Robinson was a big fan of the teenage keeper, who he also had under his wing during the 2024/25 season at the Peninsula Stadium, with a penalty stop against Gillingham in October to help steer Salford to a slender 2-1 win, cited as a "typical Youngy" performance in between the sticks.
The 19-year-old will feel he's hit his ceiling now in League Two, with League One the next division he will try to conquer.
He could be a great signing for the Foxes if they can get his loan signature over the line, as it's clear he is a promising keeper, who could bounce off of Asmir Begovic nicely, if the ex-Premier League stopper stays put at the King Power.
Ideally, Leicester would also love to have Vardy back, but that feels like a pipedream, next to some more realistic targets.
