Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has sat down with footballing media for his latest pre-match press conference. On this occasion, talk concerns the crunch upcoming clash with fellow Premier League stragglers and recently promoted Southampton. Cooper hinted at possible changes to his LCFC starting XI for the Saints showdown. But which of his players might the Welshman consider dropping and which Foxes may come into the City side? We know that Wilfred Ndidi has had an awful week, so what is the Nigerian's status and what did the midfielder's ordeal entail exactly?

What happened to Wilfred Ndidi on international duty?

First of all, Foxes of Leicester would like to share our relief that LCFC's midfield dynamo, Ndidi, has returned back safely. Before we detail his unpleasant experience, FoL wants to wish the Super Eagles squad at large our best wishes.

During the break for national football, Ndidi was due to play for Nigeria against Libya. That fixture never occurred. And some, including Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong, have described the scenario as being caused by intentional "mind games".

A statement from the Nigerian Football Federation confirmed that the group were initially due for a Benghazi Airport landing on the recent Sunday. Unfortunately they were diverted to Al Abraq. The unarranged alternative destination was over 124 miles away.

Other forms of transport were not offered to Super Eagles athletes nor staff. In fact, the team were reportedly forced to endure 15 hours of being locked in a building. Supposedly, they had little to no food, water or communications access during most of that period. Thankfully Leicester's Ndidi and his countrymen eventually arrived back in their respective homes earlier this week.

Clearly all this will have taken its toll on Ndidi. However, Cooper divulged that the 27-year-old is fine and well and has even been back in training. That is testament to the latter's commitment and character.

But will Ndidi be available for the match at St Mary's Stadium? Cooper claims that his player is ready for Saturday. Although, the ex-Nottingham Forest gaffer did allude to other options by speaking on "what happens in the international break and how that affects selection". Harry Winks was also mentioned in a favourable light.

The Saints are currently in a more dire situation than the Foxes with no wins secured, only one draw and a single point. Although it is early in the season, momentum and a gap can be gained in victory for LCFC.
