Leicester could build on stalwart foundation by defying transfer

Many, many Leicester City stars will soon leave King Power Stadium. Loans, sales and free transfers will see them off. If LCFC don't release a lot of personnel, they will get themselves into all sorts of financial bother, again.

As a matter of fact, floundering chairman Aiyawatt "Khun Top" Srivaddhanaprabha may not even wish, or be able to, fund City even at League One level. The BBC said more on that recently, which readers can read by clicking here.

However, one or two senior professionals will surely be retained, unless of course they demand a move to higher leagues. Some are ultimately contracted, not on exorbitant wages, and showed some metal, class and quality recently.

Could Leicester City potentially keep certain senior players?

Specifically, Harry Souttar is the defender in mind. The towering Australia international recently returned to starting Foxes action with a vital goal and a prestigious '9' rating against Millwall.

"Soutts" reminded the Filbert Way faithful of his undeniable aerial dominance and composure.
Although he takes home between £40,000 and £50,000 weekly, a compromise may be found between athlete and club to facilitate his stay.

A solid foundation is a must to enable City's promising youth stars to flourish in the harsh climate of a lower, testing division. The Socceroo might perhaps be the ideal bedrock for such a rebuild.

Yet the siren song of the top flight (if not the EFL Championship) remains loud; and even Souttar may desire or push for a way out. His former loan side Sheffield United are reportedly keeping an eye on the 6-foot-7 CB's situation as they look to bolster their own defensive ranks.

"With crisis club Leicester City preparing for life in League One as their downward spiral continues, Sheffield United are among those assessing how the fallout could impact their own transfer plans this summer."
The Star

For Leicester, the choice is clear: construct a defence around this stalwart foundation. Risking another total season collapse with unknown quantities is arguably not preferable, unless the signing jackpot is hit once more.
