Leicester do want to re-sign Jamie Vardy but he prefers this club

​Many pieces of the Leicester City Football Club puzzle have fell into place since Russell Martin joined the East Midlands side. Indeed, as previously mentioned in other articles, this writer never expected to state that all seems well after the retired Scotland international footballer had joined LCFC.

​Irrespective of that pessimistic, now-defunct view, Martin did arrive and he has not put a foot wrong, bar making Wout Faes, and possibly Luke Thomas, captains for two individual games. To have made 20 or 30 other correct decisions and comments means Martin really is firing on all cylinders, and does have Foxes of Leicester's advocacy - at this stage!

Martin's men have even managed to win all three pre-season friendlies so far too, versus Northampton Town first of all. Secondly, they moved South West to play and defeat Bristol Rovers convincingly; finally Burton Albion took a defeat from the visiting Foxes.

Martin is doing this whilst having to overly utilise more youth players than he probably would want to. However, Leicester have an amazingly high quality setup at Seagrave for youngsters and therefore had five or six starlets actually ready to make the jump to the first team, especially now that they are resigned to the third tier of English football, with all due respect to that division.

Undesirable professionals that City fans wanted out, have also departed the club. Jannik Vestergaard, Harry Winks, Patson Daka, Jordan Ayew - the list probably continues.

​The sales have almost all been overwhelmingly satisfactory, considering what some members of the Blue Army expect from the LE2 club and its awful recent track record on and off the pitch that led to disastrous double relegations. Jeremy Monga and Abdul Fatawu have joined Manchester City and Ipswich respectively.

When combining their two sales, the fees could reach between 35 to 40 million with add-ons, if reporting from certain journalists has been accurate. With other salaries off the bill like Winks's (which was ridiculous, especially for a player of his temperament and consistency) it is now likely that Leicester will attack the striker positions - if they have any sense left in the recruitment department led by Martin Glover.

​That is because there is no senior, recognised striker at the club at present. Don Ballard is the man that most Foxes fans seem to want, especially considering now that Lorent Tolaj has signed for Bristol City.

But the ultimate person who could feasibly return, even if he is 39 years of age, is Jamie Vardy. He knows the club inside out, he is the cherished icon on Filbert Way - and nobody is wanted more!

However, Vardy recently stated that a reunion with the Leicestershire side is not under consideration after spending last term in Italy with Cremonese. He also ruled out a move to boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday despite reported interest from the Owls and Foxes.

The veteran forward will continue his career elsewhere, and is ostensibly open to a fresh adventure in Spain with Sevilla. Some in LE2 believe Jon Rudkin's continued involvement is why the Vardys won't return.
