As is often the case in soccer, a major transfer causes a merry-go-round effect. Manchester City’s capture of Antoine Semenyo could have an impact on Leicester City.
AFC Bournemouth will be looking to replace the man who scored 10 goals with three assists in 20 Premier League games this season. One of the players the Cherries are interested in is Leicester’s Abdul Fatawa.
Fatawa has found the back of the net five times with seven assists in 26 Championship games this campaign. Despite this form, the Foxes are still only 12th in the division. Albeit, they are only four points off the playoff places.
If Leicester were to lose Fatawa, then it would seriously damage any hopes that they have of finishing in the top six. Marti Cifuentes' side has had mixed results recently, with three losses and two wins in their last five games.
Abdul Fatawa cannot say no to a move to AFC Bournemouth
Bournemouth’s recruitment has been excellent recently. They have sold on the likes of Dean Huijson, Milos Kerkez, and Illia Zabarnyi to the biggest clubs in the world. Andoni Iraola’s side is still 15th in the Premier League, so they should comfortably stay in the division. This is despite the Cherries being winless in 11 league games before they beat Tottenham Hotspur.
Fatawa would look at the teams that Bournemouth have sold their top performers to, and think that this could also be a pathway to the top for him.
The winger began his career with the Ghanaian side Steadfast. There, he had a loan to Dreams before moving to Europe with Sporting CP. From the Portuguese side, he moved to Leicester. He helped the Foxes to the Championship title in the 2023/24 season. However, he could not enjoy Premier League soccer as much as he should have.
Fatawa made 11 Premier League appearances, without scoring, but made two assists before cruciate ligament surgery cut short his campaign. The Foxes were relegated, but Fatawa has been able to get back to his best in the Championship this season.
The Ghanaian international has 25 caps, with one goal and two assists. Ghana did not qualify for the recent Africa Cup of Nations, which was a bonus for Leicester. However, they will be at the World Cup next summer. Fatawa's ability to play on either wing and through the middle could make him the perfect replacement for Semenyo at Bournemouth.
