Marti Cifuentes is willing to take a pay cut to join Leicester City AND pay a large chunk of his own compensation fee.
Leicester City seem to be nearing the end of their long-drawn-out managerial pursuit. After sacking Ruud van Nistelrooy (right call), the Foxes have been on the hunt for a new manager for what feels like a lifetime.
It's completely unlike Leicester to take this long, but that's at least encouraging for the fans. It shows that the Foxes are taking this appointment seriously, and are unwilling to settle on average market opportunities.
Danny Rohl was involved in the discussion quite heavily, but that didn't happen. Before him, there was fellow former Saint Russell Martin, who ultimately joined Rangers.
Now, Marti Cifuentes has entered the room.
Marti Cifuentes paying for Leicester move out of his own pocket
According to a report from Rob Dorsett, Marti Cifuentes will be taking a pay cut to join Leicester City. It's expected that he will join, and this will come after he voluntarily opted to pay a large chunk of his £500,000 compensation fee to Queens Park Rangers.
So, Cifuentes seems to be brought into this project for more than just the money. In fact, he's even willing to sacrifice his own pockets to take on this job. This goes to show how hungry he is to succeed, and it'll certainly sit well among the Leicester fanbase who pride themselves on the desire to represent the club.
Already, this is a green flag for the Foxes
I know what you're thinking - This is bare minimum, right? Footballers and managers are on extortionate wages, so settling for less is barely going to dent their pockets.
But this is a career at the end of the day. For match-going fans, it's difficult to differentiate this, which is understandable, but this is the way professionals see the game.
So, for anyone in any profession, to willingly take a pay cut is almost unheard of. Especially in football.
While fans may know little about Cifuentes, this action immediately tells them a lot about his personality. He wants Leicester to succeed, and he's even sacrificing elements of his personal life to buy into this project. From every perspective, this can only be good news for Leicester fans.
