Leicester in the hunt for young striker who has won promotion to the Championship

Russell Martin must be desperate for some attacking reinforcements at Leicester.

Indeed, at the time of writing, there is zero senior strikers on the books of the Foxes, with Kirsten Otchere having to feature heavily in pre-season as an up-and-coming centre-forward.

It was a necessary reset to get rid of the strikers that previously called the King Power home, however, with both Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew - who had become more and more goal-shy - overstaying their welcomes.

But, there must be some urgency on Leicester's end to finally win a striker who can wreak havoc in League One next season, over relying on the raw Otchere, with one attacker reportedly on their agenda, who is just fresh off a promotion-winning campaign at the tough level.

The target Leicester is chasing after

The Daily Mail has come forward with some potential striker targets Leicester are chasing after.

Both Dom Ballard and Aribim Pepple are allegedly on the Foxes' radar, according to the Mail, with the dynamic pair bagging a red-hot 39 goals between them in League One last campaign, for Leyton Orient and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

You would imagine Ballard has his sights on a more ambitious move than swapping Orient for the Foxes, though, with Bristol City incessantly linked with a move for the current League One golden boot holder.

It would also be hard to snap up Pepple, as Argyle will want to be in and around the third tier promotion spaces, with their 16-goal hero leading the line.

Therefore, a more realistic next move could be to go after Mason Burstow, with Martin and Co. reportedly acquiring about the former Bolton Wanderers loanee's availability this summer, according to Foxes-based social media account The Final Whistle.

He isn't as lethal as the likes of Ballard and Pepple, but he would still be a great addition if it can be pulled off, as he knows what it takes to win promotion out of the challenging division.

He isn't a million miles off both the Robins-linked striker, and his Argyle counterpart, though, as he bagged 12 goals last season from 29 starts in League One.

Burstow also collected six assists, more than both Ballard and Pepple managed to amass, with the 22-year-old arguably more of a team player who can slot into a new set-up and instantly thrive.

His 12 goal tally helped the Trotters to win a glorious promotion up to the Championship, with his manager in Greater Manchester, Steven Schumacher, hailing him as an "unbelievable" presence to have around the camp.

With three of those strikes coming during his first six games donning Bolton white, too, Burstow shouldn't be burdened by the responsibility of instantly hitting the ground running, relocating to the Midlands.

This will be music to Leicester's ears, as the new season is only a matter of weeks away, now, so he could be the perfect attacking addition, in not needing an awful lot of time to get up to speed with what is expected of him.

It's clear that the Foxes' next foray into the market will be to sign a striker, with Burstow just one enticing option among many that Leicester could go after.
