Leicester must take inspiration from this England star as they drop to League One

England put in a defensive masterclass towards the latter stages of their barnstorming 3-2 World Cup win over Mexico.

It was a real back to the walls second half display from Thomas Tuchel's gritty Three Lions, after Jarell Quansah was dismissed, as the Azteca Stadium was stunned at the full-time whistle by England's sheer bravery.

Dan Burn stood out as a giant at the back, in particular, as the lofty 6-foot-7 colossus' late cameo saw him complete a spirited six clearances.

Leicester City should take inspiration from Burn's rise to the England national team fold, as he was plying his trade in League One in 2018, before going on to be a valiant defender at Newcastle United.

Burn's crazy rise

Burn's whirlwind career in the beautiful game is the definition of a slow burner.

He did feature in the Premier League during the early stages of his extensive career for both Fulham and Brighton and Hove Albion, but he struggled for regular gametime.

It was when he dropped down to League One, the lowly division the Foxes will be calling home next season, that he came into his own, starting his crazy rise from third tier matches, to playing in the Champions League for the Magpies, and at the current World Cup for his country.

The 2017/18 season, in particular, was a standout campaign for the towering titan, as he grabbed five goals and collected two assists from 45 league games, as the Latics won promotion.

Leicester will hope they can seal a triumphant promotion as well, when World Cup fever dies down, with his ex-Wigan teammate Stephen Warnock noting that "we all knew how good of a player Dan was" when he starred at the Brick Community Stadium.

Picking up Wigan's player of the season accolade that same campaign, he would then go on to cement himself as a Premier League staple, after once being released by Fulham, with Newcastle, where he remains today as a fan's favourite for his unwavering determination.

This should be viewed as an inspirational tale for Russell Martin's camp to latch onto, as several Foxes players will hope their time in the Premier League comes again, after back-to-back relegations.

Leicester must take inspiration

Burn managed to get back to the intimidating level of the Premier League by taking the rough with the smooth, as he managed to give his all for Wigan, despite numerous setbacks.

Leicester must enter into the third tier next season ready to give it everything, as well, as it's clear this attitude has helped Burn not only break out of League One, but also become a world beater for his nation on the world's biggest stage.

The worry from Leicester fans at the moment will be that the last two seasons have played out in a rather drab fashion, with the Foxes resigned to the drop in the Premier League, and then going through the motions when their second successive relegation was confirmed.

Martin has already been videoed speaking passionately to his Leicester players, to break away from the humdrum of Gary Rowett, so there'll be fingers crossed everywhere that the performances next season are full of fight and quality, just like Burn's excellent cameo in Mexico City.
