Leicester City have seriously struggled in front of goal as of late.

While the battling nature of the defensive performance would have pleased Gary Rowett during the 0-0 draw at Watford, it was yet another game where Leicester's attackers drew a disappointing blank.

It could have been so different, too, if Patson Daka had managed to place his golden penalty kick past Egil Selvik, just before the half-time whistle blew, but his effort was saved by the Nordic stopper, to the dismay of the travelling Foxes masses.

Amazingly, this now means Leicester have missed their last three penalty kicks, and it also means only a measly seven goals have been put away, across Rowett's seven games at the helm.

It's clear that both Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew are not cutting the mustard at the moment, as Leicester's two main striker options, with only eight goals between them this season.

Daka has bagged three of those, which - to add context - means he's stuck on the same goal tally for the league campaign as Jannick Vestergaard, with the centre-back out of action through injury since late January.

The relegation candidates must wish they had a time machine handy to try and tempt some former attacking stars back to the King Power, with Leicester in danger of falling short in their mission to stay up, due to their wasteful performances.

Ideally, they never would have parted ways with Tom Cannon, looking back, as the hard-working Irishman might have been perfect for Leicester's predicament, right now.

Why Cannon could be perfect right now

Leicester never managed to get the very best out of Cannon, when the EFL sharp shooter was on their books.

Indeed, he would only go on to make 16 appearances for the club. But, he left a lasting impression, with three goals and two assists collected, from those minimal opportunities.

He would ultimately move on to Sheffield United last January, for a bumper £10m, which was money the Foxes could refuse.

But, now, if Leicester knew the unfortunate situation they'd soon be involved in, they might have driven a harder bargain, as the energy of the 23-year-old would be a breath of fresh air, next to the predictable Daka and Ayew.

Across his last two seasons in the EFL's elite division, Cannon has put away a respectable 14 goals, with a stunning four of those coming in just one game, while on loan with Stoke City, when the Potters faced Leicester's current relegation rivals Portsmouth.

The Blades' number seven is capable of producing a moment of magic, within a flash, as his former employers found out the hard way on New Year's Day.

Leicester travelled to Bramall Lane, and were on the receiving end of a bruising 3-1 loss, which stung even more when Cannon - with only 19 touches of the ball amassed - smashed home Chris Wilder and Co's second of the afternoon.

He, of course, isn't without his own faults, as he has also been prone to a patch of barren form in South Yorkshire.

But, having once been noted as an "outstanding" talent at EFL level by current Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior, Leicester would surely love to have their former livewire back among their options in an ideal reality, rather than having to settle with the frustrating duo of Daka and Ayew getting them out of trouble.
