In a move that the Blue Army will champion, but be cautious over, Leicester City have reportedly opened exploratory talks with former manager Enzo Maresca regarding a sensational return to King Power Stadium. The Italian's previous tenure in the East Midlands was brief but undeniably positive and even revolutionary. Appointed in June 2023 following the club's Premier League relegation, the former Manchester City coach implemented a distinct, possession-heavy philosophy that dominated the English Football League Championship.

Under his guidance, the Foxes secured an immediate return to the top flight as champions in record-breaking fashion. Maresca picked up four Manager of the Month awards along the way as LCFC triumphed.

However, the relationship soured when Maresca opted to leave for Chelsea in the summer of 2024, a move that left the Leicester hierarchy publicly "disappointed." During his time at Stamford Bridge, the 45-year-old enjoyed initial success, including a UEFA Conference League title and a Club World Cup trophy. That was before a breakdown in relations with the CFC board led to his exit on New Year's Day 2026.

Leicester City reportedly open talks with world-renowned manager Enzo Maresca regarding potential return

While a hypothetical reunion is an absolutely poetic outcome for a side currently languishing in the bottom half of tier two under interim boss Andy King, such a move remains highly unlikely. Maresca is understood to be targeting high-profile roles in Italy or Spain; or Man City when Pep Guardiola leaves. Financial constraints currently grip Leicester make a long-term agreement difficult. Shor-term? Maybe.

In spite of obstacles, City bosses appear desperate to 'stop the rot'. Reflecting on the gravity of the situation, the original report notes that senior officials have held secret discussions with Maresca over the City job; they view their former team leader as a ready-made solution for their current crisis.
