Leicester, Rangers & Sheff United in three-way battle for two players

If reporting is accurate, City, Rangers and Sheffield United are currently involved in a rare three-way battle for two players. A story which also involves two international brothers.

Thursday morning was rather frantic at Leicester City Football Club, but in an organised manner - for once. The East Midlands outfit actually signed two players on the same day, just to confuse their long-suffering fan base even more than they already were.

Is prudence and planning unbelievably occurring on Filbert Way following four years or so of indecision, wrong decisions and straight-up mismanagement bordering on negligence? While City supporters should certainly not hold their breath, matters are seemingly, and perhaps genuinely, improving.

Alex McCarthy could possibly become quite an astute signing for various reasons, such as his familiarity with manager Russell Martin, the provision of genuine Premier League experience and the potential to rival Jakub Stolarczyk for the starting role in goal. In addition to the former Southampton stopper, creative former Ipswich Town forward Conor Chaplin has also arrived at the Seagrave Training Ground to bolster the attacking options.

Meanwhile, the books are finally looking more balanced as the club sheds surplus weight. Victor Kristiansen will likely exit permanently due to the structure of his existing loan agreement, while the bloated wages of Jannik Vestergaard have been removed from the ledger. Not to mention the financial relief provided by Harry Winks's salary switching to Cagliari, which serves to alleviate significant pressure on the club's infrastructure.

In the meantime, Martin is working the squad extremely hard, and they have been victorious in both pre-season friendlies conducted thus far. Three further additions could materialise in LE2 soon as well; The Telegraph asserts Danny Ings imminent.

The Foxes are also eyeing John Souttar; he worked with Russell Martin at Ibrox. The Rangers defender, and brother of Leicester man Harry, featured at the World Cup for Scotland, whilst his sibling respectively represented Australia.

"Leicester City boss Russell Martin is looking to bring in a former defender of his from the brief stint he had with Rangers last term."

The elder Souttar usually operates as a central defender, though he can comfortably fill in at right back or even within a defensive midfield role, yet possiby not offering a technical upgrade on the gritty Hamza Choudhury prototype. Irrespective, the LE2 club face stiff competition for his signature from Sheffield United, adding an ironic twist given Harry's history at Bramall Lane.

Further Leicester City transfer speculation

The second target supposedly on the Leicestershire radar comes courtesy of transfer insider and City supporter, Ben Jacobs. The respected reporter suggests Ryan Oné of Sheffield United may be a primary target for Leicester City, an attacker who is versatile enough to feature across the front line but primarily operates as a central forward.

The up-and-coming baller was recently on loan at Lincoln City; Blades boss Chris Wilder is an admirer, however. The Gers have also emerged as potential suitors there: meaning a complex nexus involving two footballers and three significant clubs currently defines a section of this transfer window.
