The quality of manager the Leicester City hierarchy can reasonably expect to install at King Power Stadium has drastically lowered. Observers will recall that landing Brendan Rodgers was once heralded as a significant coup; how time's unrelenting elapse alters the landscape of ambition!

Even the occasionally questionable Northern Irishman's level of competency currently feels like a fanciful dream. When reflecting upon his past reliance on rigid hybrid zonal marking and other tactical shortcomings, the grim reality of LCFC's present descent is dreadfully concerning.

Without further digression, City's ownership must inevitably lower their sights to even the most modest EFL Championship or continental outfits. That sobering sentiment is plainly witnessable within the bookmakers' current expectations regarding the prospective next Leicester gaffer.

The type of person Leicester City fans can hope for

Perennial Peterborough United head coach Darren Ferguson is the 'evens' favourite to take over on Filbert Way. A development that illuminates a precipitous drop in status.

"I will definitely be there [NEC] next year."

Though NEC Nijmegen's Dick Schreuder was linked, he has inadvertently but emphatically rebuffed Foxes interest to remain with the Champions League-bound Dutch side. Beyond Schreuder's vacated position, only one realistic choice remains before the market descends into the realm of 33/1 fairytale selections: Scott Parker.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 12/1
Scott Parker 14/1"

Indeed, the former Fulham and Burnley gaffer isn't a likely arrival either: he will surely fancy himself for a top flight, or at least a tier-two, appointment. Though Parker would arguably be an ideal candidate, he remains priced at 14/1.

Manchester United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the only other name under 33/1 odds at 12/1, yet the Norwegian remains an equally unlikely prospect. Leicester find themselves in a desolate vacuum of managerial prestige, awaiting a saviour who may never materialise.

The likelihood of a significant name taking charge is next to none. That does not mean competence cannot be achieved.
