Let's not beat around the bush, Leicester City Football Club must add new and better players to their squad in January. It's as simple as that! If the true aim on Filbert Way is to reascend to the Premier League, then superior signings are required - and fast!

Obviously everyone in Leicester's Blue Army fan base was aware of that fact already. Yet the pretty demoralising defeat down at St Mary's on Tuesday compounded the need to improve options at King Power Stadium. But questions, many questions, remain about the capability to do so.

Can City afford to buy or loan further footballers? Possibly. Are LCFC under restrictions to do so from the Championship, or due to their upcoming hearing with the Premier League (which is due to start any day now)? We just don't know; media outlets have contradicted themselves in that regard.

However, Leicester are not cited in the governance section of the English Football League Championship website at the moment. Sheffield Wednesday (embargo and current restriction fees) and Hull City (solely current restriction fees) are the only two restricted tier two teams. Meaning LCFC are clear to do business if their Profit and Sustainability boundaries are kept.

Therefore today (Wednesday, November 26), we compare Foxes transfer rumours to what is prerequisite on Filbert Way. According to Leicester Mercury, potential areas of interest are: a striker, an attacking midfielder, a left back and a centre back.

What Leicester City need versus what they are ostensibly linked with

Everyone knows LCFC require a competent striker. Replacing Jamie Vardy was always going to be a persistent quandary of a minefield. Looking at what is available now, at least a different centre forward is on the wishlist.

If City had Aaron Ramsey more consistently available, attacking midfield options would arguably be just about suitable for the Championship. Though further recruits couldn't hurt.

If you read my stuff, you'll know that I consider Victor Kristiansen and Luke Thomas (except his improved crossing ability of late) totally unsuitable. A left back is needed; Aluko likely set his development back somewhat after dismissal.

"With Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey and Julian Carranza already at the club, that perhaps limits City to two arrivals in January. Here’s a look at the positions they may want to strengthen."

The department most requiring improvement alongside a striker may actually be centre back. I would very much like to depart from Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard altogether; as a partnership or separately. I have more faith in Ben Nelson and even Caleb Okoli.
