Leicester City lost to Southampton on Tuesday evening. And it wasn't a close match at all! 10-man LCFC were embarrassed, or at least shown up by the Hampshire outfit. The visiting Foxes, under the tutelage of Catalan gaffer Marti Cifuentes, are as inconsistent as they come. As a matter of fact, the ex-Queens Park Rangers boss cannot seem to even devise a stable nor functional starting lineup. There were plenty of losers from the Saints clash, but no winners on the King Power side. But which City stars let the team down against Tonda Eckert's men?
A club in strife
It brings those of us who write for the website and love Leicester City Football Club absolutely no pleasure whatsoever to chastise the ownership, boardroom, players and manager. Not to mention the recruitment staff and scouts getting away with some dreadful work over the years!
Yet an unacceptable 3-0 loss to a mediocre and struggling Southampton team must be addressed in the most comprehensive way. Enter Foxes of Leicester, with a little help from Leicester Mercury. So, for a start, let's discover which of City's personnel wasn't up to scratch. And who, if anyone, did enough to hold their head high?
Leicester City's losers with no winners - who let the side down vs Southampton?
As I previously indicated, I took a look at LCFC Live's Player Ratings from the South Coast last night before I detailed the Leicester underperformers. First of all, Bade Aluko. It was probably a bad decision for Cifuentes to throw the young man into this one.
"Oliver Skipp: He made a great recovery to cut out one Southampton attack but the game bypassed him in the first half otherwise. As the stand-in left-back, he worked hard and did well on the ball, but was beaten regularly by the hosts’ wide-men and let the ball slip under him for one late chance. 4"Jordan Blackwell, the Mercury
The left back scored a mind-boggling '3'. Hopefully he'll return stronger and wiser. A vacant Wout Faes was also attributed an unforgivable 3.
"Harry Winks: He didn’t grip hold of the game like he can, and was maybe trying to do too much during the moments he did get on the ball. He didn’t seem to give much cover to the defence for the Southampton counters, and wasn’t involved in the second half either. 4"
Abdul Fatawu (3) was described as "really poor". Forward Jordan Ayew earned a 3 as well. Nobody in a blue shirt had a good game.
