A very inactive Leicester City Football Club have finally begun making moves in the transfer market. Unfortunately that doesn't actually mean the Foxes have been signing anybody. Oh, I beg your pardon, we did capture the impressive free transfer of Asmir Begovic to be fair. Joking aside, City have now sold two formerly important players. Additionally, a further two pretty valuable City assets may also leave. If my maths are accurate after adding it all up, the hypothetical accumulation could be up to £70 million plus profits of incoming funds. Will bosses of the East Midlands side consequently sanction purchases of one or more quality acquisitions or loans? Leicester could sign Callum Doyle & Dapo Afolayan with the proceeds.
Leicester to make £70m+ profits?
In the words of Sheldon Cooper, "I'd like to do the math!". So let's add up what's happened and what journalists seem to expect to transpire. First of all, talented goalkeeper Mads Hermansen left for West Ham United for approximately £20m. That's if these 'tough add-ons' activate.
Midfield juggernaut Wilfred Ndidi has gone to Turkish team Besiktas. He had an apparent £9.5m price tag.
OK, now the contentious stuff, so bear with me. Bilal El Khannouss could command up to £30m, not that Leicester's Blue Army fan base want him to go.
Claims now also place Caleb Okoli in limbo. The Italian is said to be the subject of current interest from Serie A club AC Milan. He originally cost the King Power side around £13m.
Targeting Callum Doyle and Dapo Afolayan?
"Norwich City, Leicester City and Coventry City lurking in Callum Doyle chase"FLW
If you add those potential amounts up, LCFC have a war chest of about £70m or so. Forgetting Profit and Sustainability laws briefly; we can never be exactly sure of LCFC's finances.
"Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion, Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City are among the clubs who have expressed an interested in the winger."Hayters
Anyway, Doyle and Afolayan are both ostensibly on City's shortlist of desirables. Man City's versatile defender knows Leicester well and is widely admired. He might perhaps replace Okoli. Though the below report is to the contrary.
"Leicester City are unlikely to spend much - if any - of the £30m banked in the past week, Football League World understands."FLW
While the St Pauli winger supposedly has an equally large number of admirers. He's been labelled 'the next Jay-Jay Okocha'. No pressure there, then!
The Foxes apparently want Sebastian Tounekti and Yari Verschaeren too. LCFC could conceivably sign a few targets and keep some money. But I wouldn't bet on it; it's gonna be a lean summer for Leicester this year. Lean, lean, lean.
