As it is transfer season at the moment, we chose to look at a few high profile Leicester City disasters of times gone by. But don't worry, the series will also take in the more success big name(ish) signings too. I'm sure you can recall we've had such veteran talent as Esteban Cambiasso and Roberto Mancini on our books in previous years. However, this particular piece focuses one of the worst Foxes signings of the contemporary era.
This player, who I shall reveal shortly, actually appears to blame the covid outbreak and consequent poor health for his unacceptable showings in a City shirt. That was briefly before he was released and ultimately retired. LCFC's Blue Army fan base were quite annoyed with some of his displays, and ridiculously high wages. Though maybe we should have cut the former Fox some slack. Let's see what was disclosed and come to our own conclusion.
Preseason
City have actually done fairly well in preseason, all negative things considered. Four wins and a loss to decent German outfit Köln. That ain't too bad going! And there was a time when many signings and incoming loans would have Leicester supporters excited for the new campaign.
We can't really claim that passion at present, not with only 38-year-old goalkeeper Asmir Begovic signed so far! There was a time when Ryan Bertrand gave us misplaced or false optimism.
Ryan Bertrand was of the worst modern Leicester City signings and he actually seems to blame covid for poor showing
Bertrand was a real let down at the King Power. The majority of the faithful, including myself, expected fairly decent things from the Ex-Southampton man. He didn't repay the faith.
I often think certain footballers in the East Midlands get a hard ride from the support. Although maybe we were too hard on the 35-year-old after reading this quote:
"There was a string of events. I had Covid at the start of the season and so I missed the first game. Then I had a couple of weeks out with Covid.
“But then that prolonged. I remember I would train and then every time I stopped training, I would get a migraine. That lasted for six weeks or so... So it was hard to get the fitness back after that. Then I tore my meniscus and it was a simple operation. I was aiming to be out for one month. From the operation I had an infection in the knee.
“That one operation ended up with three more operations and it kept spiralling and spiralling. I could never really get back. It was a very tough time to go through the process."
