Marti Cifuentes is slowly but surely attempting to put his own stamp on the contemporary Leicester City Football Club. Though he has not been backed with any transfers of note by the powers-that-be at King Power Stadium. Unfortunately the Catalan is having to work with what he has. Although, I personally believe the ex-Queens Park Rangers manager is doing a decent job in uncertain and testing times on Filbert Way.
While evolving the squad into a starting lineup in his own image, with hopefully impactful substitutes, Cifuentes has made certain choices here and there. Obviously this concerns omitting a few Foxes from matchday teams in different competitions, etcetera. We also have new fan favourites emerging after seemingly cementing their places in Cifuentes' plans. Louis Page would be the standout in that regard.
And we've been given a shock here and there as well. However, I would say that the 43-year-old has not been radical, just tweaking one or two areas kind of successfully so far. Of course, wins have been hard to attain, though two victorioes from three Championship outings is a good start. Nevertheless, the loss to Preston North End was quite hard to take and a bit of a let down amid an uneven performance. Yet Cifuentes is sticking by one particular player who is somewhat polarising in the Blue Army. Allow me to explain.
It's a slight surprise that Leicester City's Boubakary Soumare is the only non-goalkeeper to play every minute under new boss Marti Cifuentes
According to Leicester Mercury, Soumare isn't a player the fan base want in the XI. But that's not entirely true: some of us consider him a prospectively solid midfielder. He's just not shown that consistently.
But why does Cifuentes rate the Frenchman so highly? Let's read a quote on the matter from City's head coach:
"He’s got the qualities and the strengths to play in the number six or in the number eight position.Cifuentes
“Technically he’s a very good player and he’s physically very strong. He understands the game as well."
