 Leicester City player ratings:

Mads Hermansen. The Danish stopper was excellent throughout keeping Leicester in the game in the first half with two impressive saves with Villa players through on goal. 8

James Justin. Did little wrong defensively although offered little going forward. 6

Wout Faes. The Belgium international made some trademark interceptions but gave the ball away early on in a mistake which almost led to a Villa goal, lost Duran for the second goal and generally looked uncomfortable on the ball. 5.

Caleb Okoli. The close-season signing was a surprise inclusion at the expense of Jannik Vestergaard. Battled gamely and did little wrong making one stunning last gap tackle to prevent a Villa player running clear on goal. Like Faes, sometimes looked uncomfortable on the ball. 6

Victor Kristiansen. The Danish left back is obviously Cooper’s first choice for the left back spot presumably largely because of his ability to maraud down the flank. However, he wasn’t particularly effective at going forward although reasonably solid in defence. Got caught out for Villa’s opening goal though. 6

Harry Winks. The midfielder, as usual, was effective in breaking up play and starting attacks. Sometimes got caught out by runs from Villa midfielders. 7

Oliver Skipp. The former Spurs midfielder had a good first league start acting, with Winks, as a double pivot. Intercepted Villa passes on numerous occasions. Unlucky to concede the free kick that led to Villa’s opening goal. 7
