Leicester on verge of vital signing as preseason schedule published
Leicester City are said to be on the verge of making a vital signing from the Scottish Premier League. Is Celtic star Matt O’Riley heading to King Power Stadium? He is needed here.
In addition to that story taking up column inches, the Foxes' preseason schedule has also been published. Which clubs will play Leicester as they attempt to regain some sharpness ahead of a likely testing season?
Forgetting England and looking forward to preseason
Let's not dwell on the Three Lions' effort on Sunday night for too long. Nearly 60-years of hurt continues for the England fans. On this occasion, though, the major trophy eluding us all felt within touching distance. Here's to World Cup glory for Gareth Southgate and his men, or whoever is in charge.
Back to domestic football now, with Euro 2024 ultimately ending disappointingly for the English. In the meantime Leicester City have a seemingly full schedule of preseason fixtures. And, in true LCFC fashion, there are some quite random elements to the itinerary.
First of all this offseason, the east Midlanders face Shrewsbury Town at Croud Meadow. Second on the list is Palermo in Chesterfield. I know, right!? Regardless, that feels like a true test for the boys in blue as they prepare for a gruelling campaign.
Yet Leicester used to begin with a few lower league teams from their own country and build to outfits such as the Italians. Maybe someone with clout on Filbert Way has come up with a change in proceedings. It certainly seems that way.
It's like with the final game. City used to always play a slightly more challenging side at King Power Stadium for their last friendly outing. Nevertheless, the Foxes travel back to England from an unnecessary feeling second training camp to then go to France for a game versus RC Lens at Estadio Bollaert-Delelis.
FC Augsburg are another club on the list; the Germans' practice match against LCFC is on Saturday, August 3. Maybe the way they do it has altered because of the pair of camps they attend. Who knows.
Leicester City close in on Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley - report
There is a claim doing the rounds which states that O’Riley could soon become a Fox. The Denmark international is a fan favourite at Celtic Park. But, as we've seen before - that won't stop LCFC coming for him.
Apparent sources have described Leicester as being in pole position to seal the 23-year-old's signature. This leaves Atalanta, Everton and Southampton without their target. Hopefully O’Riley can replicate some of what Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall did.
