A Liverpool legend has recently chimed in on the Steve Cooper case. He's encouraged Leicester City fans to give Cooper a chance.

Steve Cooper is not a popular figure among the Leicester City fanbase and understandably so. He hasn't exactly set the world alight in his first few matches af Foxes boss.

In fact, Leicester haven't won a Premier League match yet this season and they only just managed to beat Walsall in the EFL Cup last night. It took a penalty shootout for Cooper's side to beat the League Two team.

So, understandably, fans are not happy with Steve Cooper as their boss. However, they have been encouraged by a Liverpool legend to give him a fair run-out.

Liverpool legend thinks Leicester fans should give Steve Cooper a chance

Speaking to talkSPORT, Liverpool legend Danny Murphy encouraged Leicester City fans not to jump the gun with Steve Cooper. In fact, he thinks Cooper has taken the right approach in his first five games.

Murphy's reasonining is that Leicester City aren't afforded the luxury of playing "in-your-face" football, for lack of a better word. Instead, Cooper is right to be pragmatic, in the eyes of Murphy.

In his own words, Murphy said: "I think Steve Cooper is pragmatic in his approach with this Leicester and I think it is probably the right way to go. I've seen a couple of the games - one live, and a couple of other 90 minutes. They're not a great watch, not particularly adventurous."

Continuing, Murphy added: "But I don't think they can be, because if they did I think they'll get done. He's easing his way in. He's only been in the door for five games, there's quite a few new players through the door so he's going to have to work with them, get his message across. Give him a bit more time."

It is worth noting that Murphy admitted to being open to having his opinion change, if things don't change at Leicester. For the time being, he has encouraged Leicester fans to stick by Cooper while things are at least somewhat under control.

In usual circumstances, Leicester City fans would agree. After all, five Premier League games seems like an incredibly short sample size to formulate an opinion on a manager.

However, Cooper suffers the unfortunate fate of being Enzo Maresca's successor. Maresca was an excellent manager for Leicester, who played exciting football.

Cooper is not that kind of manager, or at least he hasn't been for Leicester yet. Nobody can deny that his start has been disappointing but hopefully Murphy is right, hopefully it isn't too late to change fortunes.
