Maresca provides Dewsbury-Hall transfer update as Leicester chase Brazilian signing
Leicester City head coach Enzo Maresca has provided an update on in-demand Foxes midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. This is timely news for the Blue Army who are increasingly worried about a star player's status. Although, the boss didn't exactly dispel rumours of Dewsbury-Hall's potential exit. In further transfer speculation, LCFC are reportedly chasing a Brazilian who is on the rise. Foxes of Leicester offer opinions and analysis on the latest hearsay and news concerning the King Power team, as always.
Leicester City revive interest in centreback as Foxes look to clinch first signing of summer in spite of FFP decisions looming
Gabriel Pereira, stalwart of Gil Vicente Futebol Clube of the Portuguese Primeira Liga, is once again on the Foxes' transfer wishlist. Or, possibly more accurately, the defender remains a target at King Power Stadium. That is despite of the preoccupation of supposed Financial Fair Play, or Profit and Sustainability, law breaking hanging over the east Midlands club like a dark cloud. Irrespective, LCFC ownership must find a way to bolster the team ahead of deserved upcoming Premier League re-entry.
One of the more obvious reasons for upgrading the roster slightly, or, potentially radically, is that the English top-flight is the most demanding division in world football. That stance is subjective, of course, as well as obvious, to be honest. Secondly, Maresca wants to strengthen the squad; that probably means that he doesn't consider the side good enough to survive in the EPL with what they have right now. I say that because the Italian clearly stated that the sole aspiration for 2024/25 is literally to stay in the prem.
Lastly, Maresca is supposedly wanted by other outfits in England and abroad. Apparently these are big clubs, or ones that would rival Leicester in pulling power and general standing. Therefore securing the gaffer on an extended contract is also something the LCFC hierarchy is said to be working feverishly on. And rightly so.
Back to Pereira of Gil Vicente now, with Portuguese business being one of City's main ports of call. Benfica, Braga, Udinese and Lyon are rumoured to rival the Foxes for the centrehalf's signature. According to Leicester Mercury, he is recognised 'across the continent' for his skill set.
What's happening with Foxes standout Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Maresca has admitted to the media that Leicester must sell players over the offseason for FFP reasons. He also conceded that he is only 'hopeful' that 'KDH' will be a Fox for the next campaign:
"Enzo Maresca has stressed that Leicester City must replace any key players sold this summer, with the manager still only “hopeful” that Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall will be with the club next season.
With City needing profit on their books, Dewsbury-Hall is at risk of being sold. The midfielder, City’s player of the season, has indicated that he has no intention of leaving, but he is valuable and his sale would go into the accounts as pure profit, given he is a graduate of the academy.
Brighton came in for the 25-year-old in the January window, and Maresca has suggested he is expecting more Premier League sides to come forward once the top-flight campaign has finished. But if City sell Dewsbury-Hall, who was on crutches for the final game of the season after injuring his ankle, then Maresca is demanding a replacement."
